5 U.S. Films Tops So. Korean Market

June 6, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: News

The big box office winners in South Korea over the last two months haven’t been Korean-made films, as is the usual case.

This time around “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” topped the Korean box office for a second consecutive week, giving it a grand two-week total $18.7 million in that small Asian country. It set a record by selling over 2 million tickets in just 14 days time. Coming in second was the Cameron Diaz romantic comedy “What Happens In Vegas.” Rounding out the Top 5 Korean grossers were “The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” Al Pacino’s gripping thriller “88 Minutes” and “Iron Man.” This is the first time, in quite a long time that the top 5 films in the South Korean market have all been Hollywood products.
