Big Weekend Box Office for SF Genre

May 26, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

This weekend will go down as the biggest box office bonanza for sci-fi and genre-related movies in the entertainment industry’s history.

The accumulated totals between four of the major films total greater than $173 million (USD), with “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” making up the bulk of that figure with $126 million (counting its special Thursday midnight showing).

Second place falls to the next movie in the The Chronicles of Narnia franchise titled “Prince Caspian” with another $23 million added to its previous total of $68 million. “Iron Man” continues to blow away all contenders with its fourth week total now of more than $252 million and closing out is “Speed Racer” with a disappointing $4 million added to its previous take of $32 million.

Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi on Tuesday for the final Top Ten winners for this weekend.

I’m glad Sam said “genre-related” movies because that also covers all the movies that have come out that aren’t scifi. Like all of them.
