When Captain America hits the big-screen in a couple of years, fans can expect it will be a period piece says Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. Captain America: The First Avenger will open six weeks before Marvel’s Avengers film and lay the groundwork for the Avengers big-screen epic. Feige went on to say that rumors that Matthew McConaughay was in line to play the hero were just rumors. Â
In additon, Feige said that the upcoming Thor movie would take place largely in Asgard and that talks were underway to get director Jon Favreau back in the director’s seat for Iron Man 2.
In what could be the coolest news, Feige confirmed that a star-shaped object seen in the background of Tony Stark’s lab in Iron Man was part of the Captain America shield.  Looks like we have another reason to check out the summer’s biggest (so-far) hit yet again.Â
Feige also confirmed release dates for Marvel’s future slate of superhero movies: Iron Man 2 on April 30, 2010; Thor on June 4, 2010; The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6, 2011; and The Avengers on July 1, 2011.
