The young adult novella horror series “Goosebumps” will be coming to a big screen near you sometime in the not-to-distant future. Created by R. L. Stine, the 60-plus stories have been attempted in the past to be made for films and failed to get off the ground, however, Columbia Pictures, Sony and Scholastic Media (famous for the “Harry Potter” series) are ready to succeed where those who have gone faltered. A popular television series was made, based on the “Goosebumps” books and its many spin-offs. The small screen version ran for four seasons from 1995 to 1998 on the Fox Kids Network.

The newest book hit stores last month with a video game set for release soon.

“Numerous people have tried to bring ‘Goosebumps’ to the bigscreen, but luckily Scholastic never found the right fit,” stated producer Neal Moritz. “I’ve been a huge fan of the property for a long time. I met with Deborah [Forte] several times and convinced her that Original and Sony were the best place to take it.” Moritz will co-produce “bumps.”

“The time is ripe for doing a movie,” said Deborah Forte of Scholastic Media. “The first generation of ‘Goosebumps’ fans are in their early 20s now.”

The project has been put on the fast-track by Columbia with the film company’s co-president — Matt Tolmach, calling “Goosebumps” “a truly global brand that excites kids everywhere.”

Tolmach also hinted at film-franchise by adding, “With so much rich source material available to us, we expect to deliver a film that will chill and thrill fans of this unique family-friendly franchise.”
