Nintendo Kicks Some PlayStation 3 Butt in Japan

May 14, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Gaming

According to a report today in Variety Asia Edition Nintendo has now sold six million Wii consoles in Japan. This breaks all previous records for gaming consoles since statistics began for such things back in 2006.

Wii became an immediate worldwide smash but, even its sales numbers since its debut has shocked both gamers and those in the industry. Wii has literally changed gaming forever by its totally immersive and interactive physical style.

Wii’s closests competitor in Japan (and worldwide) is the Sony PlayStation 3. By comparison it has sold a little over 2 million gaming consoles as of last week.

The new Wii Fit workout software has sold two million units alone in just 24 weeks in Japan, another record breaker.
