Film“Iron Man” Plummels “Speed Racer”
Posted by Sam on Sunday, 11 May 2008
“Speed Racer” debuted this weekend in theaters across the globe but did anybody notice? Not many!
Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man,” starring Robert Downey Jr. beat out the cartoonish live-action Racer by as much as $30 million at the box office leaving the Mach 6 eating Iron’s fumes. If box office estimates continue to hold by the end of tonight then “Iron Man” will do better in its second straight week than most movies open at.
Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi for the full Top Ten Weekend grossers later this week.

Just saw Iron Man. And all I can say is: Daaaaamn!!!

Definitely going to end up in my DVD library.
Kudos all around: acting, writing, direction, fx…
This movie should have some “legs” into summer. (Um…not “Summer”…I mean Summer…the season.)

if Speed Racer came in #1 in the Box Office then, we, the movie going public would have to hold our heads in shame.

Sorry I added $8 bucks to that Speed weekend box office. My head is down in shame. Should have believed the negative reviews, and yes, it is much worse than the reviews. If you’re a fan of the cartoon, just watch those this weekend and be happy there is no chance for a Speed Racer part 2 now.

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer… the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
