After three R-rated installments, the next Terminator will be a bit more family-friendly according to Variety.  Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the next installment in the popular franchise, will be going for a PG-13 rating.Â
Producers of the film say they’re going for a more family-friendly film this time around, following the model of last summer’s Live Free or Die Hard. The producers believe this movie will help broaden the fan-base for the series.
“The ratings have changed,” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. “The PG-13 has increased in intensity.”
However, the real reason for the move may be the lucrative tie-in merchandising market.
A family-friendly rating opens many doors, including a Terminator Salvation licensing deal for action figures with Playmates Toys.
“Our merchandising program will be the largest to date for The Terminator, ” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Derek Anderson  ex-owner of ad agency In the Mix, who adds that he had not discussed the possibility of an R-rating. “We won’t force it. We are carrying on in the tradition of the mythology, with an exciting approach to the action. If we can make a compelling film to reach the widest audience, why wouldn’t we do it?”
Production of the fourth Terminator film began last week. The film is set to open in theaters next summer.  Â

ultraviolet franchises are always great for the kids, that’s why they have such massive toy lines and also why the rating system is a joke!
what’s the purpose of aiming for a PG13 in this one? kids are going to see it regardless and their parents will be the one bringing them!
Mr Wall says
never mind, I came up with the answer just as I hit “submit”, it’s all for the uncut DVD!

I wouldn’t exactly call “Live Free or Die Hard” family-friendly.
While a PG-13 “Terminator” movie would have much less profanity, I’m sure that the action level would still be high, and that’s what makes the whole series great. The action.

I’m not a big fan of gratuitous violence and profanity in movies but, die hard was a violent series, and a great one at that. The 4th one was so tame it just didn’t fit with the rest.
I hope that they don’t make the same mistake with T4
