Atari Gobbled Up

May 2, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Gaming

The gaming icon Atari has been limping on two bad legs for quite some time, bleeding money like a sieve, and has finally succumbed to a total buyout from Infogrames, a France-based gaming company.

Infogrames already owned 51% of Atari and has just purchased the last 49% to make it sole owner of the fledgling gaming/computer brand name that was once a shining prince of the gaming world. The buyout is designed to allow Infogrames to finally pour money back into the Atari name and invigorate it as the Infogrames brand for its United States market. It will continue with the familiar Atari moniker. Over the next couple of years expect to see loads of advertising in the U.S. geared to re-introduce Atari to a new generation.
