Rodriguez Defrocks Cleric Hitman

April 24, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

Javier Rodriguez’s script titled “The Heretic” has been picked up and will be made into a major action-adventure film.

The thriller follows a fallen priest that now wears the frock of a professional hitman hired by a rogue archbishop to assassinate the renegade priest that history came to know as Martin Luther, the man behind the Protestant Reformation movement in the Christian church. The priest-turned murderer-for-hire accepts the challenge with conviction only to soon find out that the deception runs deep on both sides of the ecclesiastical aisle, and unlike the X-Files, the truth is not out there.

Phoenix Pictures, the same company behind the Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio action-thriller “Shutter Island,” acquired the rights for Rodriguez’s script. Phoenix is looking to begin production on “The Heretic” as soon as possible.
