Piranaha remake to be 3-D
A re-make of the 70s horror movie Piranha will break new ground when its released in theaters as the first R-rated 3-D film reports SciFi Wire.
The film, directed by Alexandre Aja, will push the limits of on-screen gore and is “the only reason that we’re making that movie,” Aja told reporters.
“We are thinking, … let’s imagine, like, a real horror movie, a real R-rated movie, in 3-D,” said Aja. “That would be the ultimate experience. That would be the ultimate immersion of the audience into the nightmare.”
“Basically, it’s about fish killing and eating drunk, stupid college kids,” he said with a laugh. “So it’s really about that. Yes, it’s fun. Yes, it’s going to be about … the revenge of the piranha. They messed up with the lake. They messed up with nature.” He added that the movie will explore “what would be the ultimate scary thing that could happen to you. … And that brings fun ideas of how to be really gory.”
Aja will begin work on the film when he’s done editing his film, the supernatural thriller Mirrors. Aja would like to shoot the updated Piranhas at a real spring-break destination in Lake Havasu, Arizona and the remade flick is projected to start scaring in theaters in July 2009.
Ratner wants to direct Shrinking re-make
X-Men 3 director Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainement’s Remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man according to the Hollywood Reporter. Comedian Eddie Murphy is attached to star in the Brian Glazer produced movie.

He must find a way to reverse the spell before he gets so small that he disappears.

Oh good lord, how many times have we seen a movie get made for the sake of the spectacle or shock value it could generate, only to have it backfire? I predict this to be the case with Pirhanna. I know *I* won’t be seeing it, in 3D or any other way. Pun notwithstanding, I’ll cowtow: maybe it’s a visual thing. What do you all think? Is the lure of seeing drunk, stupid college kids being killed by fish in 3D enough to get you into the theater?
