Just to prove that boneheaded network scheduling decisions aren’t just made by FOX, Britain’s ITV Network is playing havoc airing Pushing Daisies.
According to Yahoo News!, the American-made series debuted last weekend to solid ratings. The show pulled in 5.7 million viewers and is one of the first American shows to make a primetime debut on standard television in the United Kingdom in several years.
But when it came to the timeslot this week, Daisies faced stiffer competition in the form of the BBC’s annual Eurovision Song Contest. ITV decided to pull the second episode, but there is a twist. The network has decided to skip the second episode.
According to an ITV spokesperson, the episode didn’t have enough serialized drama to keep it on their schedules.
“Episode 2 was the only show we could drop without spoiling the storyline,” the spokesperson said. In eight weeks time, ITV will again become home to soccer, and Pushing Daisies needs to be done by then so that it doesn’t interfere. That means the loss of episode two.
UK fans have already begun expressing their displeasure at the move on various boards and web-sites related to the show.
