Airbender opens in 2010

April 16, 2008 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: Film News

For those of you anxiously awaiting the release date of the big-screen adaptation Avatar: The Last Airbender, this could be a case of good news/bad news.

The good news is Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Studios have announced a release date for the M. Night Shyamalan adaption. The bad news is you probably won’t be able to fandango a ticket any time soon as the film is set to open July 2, 2010 according to Variety.

The production has dropped the name Avatar from the title to avoid confusion with the 20th Century Fox James Cameron directed film Avatar that opens in December of 2009. The big-screen release of the popular anime series will be released under the title Airbender.

Really not digging the name change. Makes me wonder how they are going to set this up… especially with the series currently on a standstill. Will the sequels be called Eathbender, firebender, and Waterbender?
