With the demise of HD-DVD, the second season of the remastered Star Trek will be released only on DVD on August 5 reports TVShowsonDVD.com.
The first remastered season of the classic television series was released late last year as a combination HD-DVD/DVD package. The second season was scheduled for a release early this year in a similar package, but canceled by CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment when Blu-Ray won the battle as the new standard for high definition players.
The release will include all the episodes from the classic second season, including “The Doomsday Machine,” “Amok Time,” and “Mirror, Mirror.” TV Shows on DVD reports that a number of bonus features are under development for the set but nothing has been officially announced or confirmed by CBS DVD. There is also no word on packaging or pricing for the set.
There’s also no word on when a Blu-Ray release of the original series will hit store shelves. CBS and Paramount have said that the original series will be released to Blu-Ray in the future.
