“The Others” now on Chiller

“The Others” now on Chiller

April 6, 2008 By Summer Brooks 2 Comments

The Others “The Others” was a paranormal series that debuted on NBC in February 2000 as a mid-season replacement. I was immediately interested in it because Glen Morgan and James Wong had joined the series as producers, and I was a huge fan of one of their previous series, “Space: Above and Beyond”.

It terms of today’s shows, it could be considered a cross between “Medium” and “CSI”. It starred Julianne Nicholson, Bill Cobbs, Gabriel Macht, Melissa Crider, and John Billingsley as the professor studying the group’s psychic abilities and paranormal experiences as they investigate “weird stuff” happening around them. The series only lasted 13 episodes, and I always wondered what would have happened if it had gone a full season, and if the episodes had been run in order, instead of confusing the audience by shifting them around.

Which brings us to today. Chiller has been running the pilot episode of “The Others”, and nothing but the pilot episode for about a month now. I had been excited to see the pilot pop up during a random channel scan back in March, but completely confused why nothing but that one episode showed up, repeating as many as 8-9 times per week.

This week, the payoff. The pilot episode will air one more time, then on April 10 the episode “Luciferous” will air, and on April 17, we’ll get the episode “Eyes”. So it looks like the series is being rerun in what might have been the intended chronological order.

If you have Chiller, check it out. The show was uneven, and because the first few episodes were run out of order, I don’t think it was given a chance for find its footing. I had hoped that Chiller’s rerunning of “Brimstone” was a lead-up to it finally showing up on DVD (not as yet), but it at least had given more people a chance to see a brilliant show. I don’t think “The Others” was as brilliant as “Brimstone”, but it was starting to get better when it was chopped.

And Chiller’s going to start rerunning “Freakylinks” too… wonder what else they can dig up to rerun?

    Harley,

as I said in the article, this series ran back in 2000. It had a short run on NBC from February through the end of the season, then was cancelled. So the 13 episodes from almost 9 years ago are all we’re ever going to get.

Since Chiller is a channel featuring a lot of old shows that are now owned by NBC/Universal, it’s getting a lot of airplay… the entire series as been run through at least twice now.

Still waiting for Brimstone to show up on DVD…
