Tim, why aren’t you on camera?
I thought you guys did great - love the set. Glad you got that green screen setup!
    Good job!

Tim is the guy behind the camera. ;)

Sam, the camera appears to be locked off. Get Tim to handle the tele-prompter if he doesn’t want to be on camera, that will stop Brian fondling his mouse on screen.

Loose the hand mic’s, guys. If your not gonna have graphics behind you, make the SoSF logo bigger.

Great set and matching outfits. 4/5 stars.

I took one star off because Anton Yelchin is playing young Kyle Reeese, not his dad.

Well, if Brian wasn’t fondling the mouse, he’d be fondling something else on camera, and we can’t have that on a PG-13 show. ;)

Hand mics will eventually be going by the wayside just as soon as we can land our hands on a couple that offer good sound quality for under the current $200 each.

The Yelchin story was simply a Brian Brown tongue slip, he knew that Yelchin is playing Kyle Reese, the eventual father of John Connor, not his own dad, it just didn’t come out that way and wasn’t caught until the release. :)

Overall, the guys did pretty good for their first ever venture into this format.

    Great first show!

    Loved it. Give us more!

A very good first effort. But… (you knew there’d be a but, right?)

I’m wondering what I’m getting from this that I couldn’t get from an audio feed? Hopefully you’ll eventually be able to include video clips or something else that you can’t offer in an audio-only feed.

PS Brian Brown could be my long-lost twin.

Hey gang… First show, so some things are not exactly how we planned it.
I want to lose the hand mics, but Lav mics cost money I don’t have. (Insert plea for donations here.)
The set is very small, so adding another body behind the desk looks terrible.
We’ll be fine tuning this as we go. Give us a few episodes and we’ll find the secret sauce. ;-)
Thanks for all the great comments.

    Slicers,

Radio Shack and $20 will get you little desk-top stands for those mics, and that would at least look better than holding them.

I like Pete’s idea of clips or something to benefit from the video-rather-than-audio.

A little shaky, as it’s obvious that there was some nerviousness in front of the camera, but that will fade away within a couple of episodes, and your tongues will get un-tied.

    Overall, good first effort.

    So Brian,

How was it to work with Bill Murray and Andy McDowell in “Groundhog Day”? I hope you don’t find that question insulting. I think you guys sound and look great!

great job guys… couple of suggestions from a guy in the biz… get some notes, print the papers out and use them to reference instead of doing it all from memory… it will also look great on video. speaking of video, use your green screen to run some video of what your talking about in the bkgd, you could even run a :20 clip with dissolved loops if you need to, but it would let you see what your talking about (could even put a nice graphic over it). Audio was GREAT, just need some more video to make it look really spiffy :)

If you guys need editing help, and we can figure out a way to share files, i have a AVID and i know how to use it! :)

Asperante… Send me a message off list. I may have something you can help with.

Nice job guys. Now you need to do a couple things with this in the future:

    1) Have a separate RSS feed for video
    2) More importantly get this on Miro as a channel ASAP. Miro is a very popular program to watch online TV. http://www.getmiro.com/ and here is their page on how to get a channel on Miro: http://www.getmiro.com/create/

You’ll get a lot of exposure on Miro I think. Besides, then I can watch you after the latest HD video from JPL at NASA. :)

  14. Brian Brown on March 25th, 2008 10:50 pm

2of3 - HAHAHAAH! I used to get that a lot actually especially when my hair was short. :)

  15. Marty on March 25th, 2008 11:59 pm

SoSF is just fine as a podcast. No need to go into video as far as I can see. But if you must do it, at least get stands for the mics and zoom in a bit. The camera is too far away. If we’re going to be treated to your awesomeness we should get the full effect.
    Keep on truckin’.

Trust me when I tell you we are just getting started. We have got such cool stuff happening with this and with the release of each new video news show it will only get better, tighter, sharper and will knock your socks off. Don’t judge the whole effect by this first test release. There is some good stuff to come so stay tuned.
