Please…Please, Just Leave Rosemary Alone!
In another of those Hollywood “there is nothing new under the sun” moments, rumor has it that that Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company is currently in talks with Paramount to remake Roman Polanski’s 1968 horror film “Rosemary’s Baby.”
The rumor goes on to indicate that Dunes is looking for writers to give the proposed movie an update to the original screenplay, which was based on the Ira Levin bestselling novel.
The Polanski movie centered on a young Manhattan couple, played by John Cassavetes and Mia Farrow, and a group of devil worshipping apartment dwellers. Farrow is pregnant and it turns out her baby is nothing less than the offspring of Satan itself and will become the future Antichrist. At first horrified, the film ends with Farrow’s character taking to mothering the devil’s spawn.
Like, “Omen,” this is just another rehash of an already well done idea that could never be made better than the original….so for once learn from the past and leave it alone!
Sam- I’m with you on this one! Why don’t they just utilize the concept and leave the original alone!
I’ll never understand why there is so much hatred for re-makes or other versions. You said “….leave the original alone” Ok, they are not altering the time line or doing anything to eliminate any trace of your precious original.
So weather or not the new version is good or bad it has little effect on what became before or I dare say anyones enjoyment of it.
Per example, since H.G. Wells “War Of The Worlds” novel there have been numerous takes on WOTW’s. Some were good and some not so good but I hate to think what would have happened if some “purist” stopped Orson Wells, George Pal or Steven Speilberg from making their versions.
Again the point is a re-make, re-imagineing or alternate version doesn’t magically wipe out the original. Its just another stab at. So honestly I say bring on the re-makes because you never know what you will get.
