ABC Looking to Lock Out Ad Skipping

February 25, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: TV News

18881297.jpgTelevision networks are hoping to hit hard against the proliferation of DVR usage as the main way of acquiring and viewing shows on their channels. One of the ways that ABC is looking to do that is by using its affiliated broadcast stations, and Cox Communications’ cable systems to establish an On-Demand Video Service that would allow viewers to watch ABC shows like “Lost,” “Pushing Daisies” and “Eli Stone” any time they want.

There is one caveat — This new service will be using technology that disables the viewers’ ability to fast-forward through commercials.

To find out more about ABC’s plans read Bill Carter’s full article at The New York Times Website.

    When will the execs learn that the best way to make people flock to ‘alternate distribution methods’ like P2P is to ‘combat’ new technology instead of embracing it?

    @Thom

    I hope soon, but I fear never

    They don’t realize that they have a massive viewer potential, if only they would embrace bittorrent.
