"The Boys" Heading For the Big Screen

boys-010_solicit.jpg“The Boys,” an independent comic book published by Dynamite Entertainment and the creation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, will make its way to the big screen sometime in the not-to-distant future.

Columbia Pictures has just bought up the rights to bring the comic series to the big screen with the help of Neal H. Moritz and his Original Film production company.

The story centers on a group of CIA agents who have the sole responsibility of keeping an eye on the expansion of superheros on planet Earth. Set in contemporary times, it is up to “the boys” to keep these super humans under control either through intimidation or termination.

“Rather than begin with a romantic idea of superheroes out to save the world, ‘The Boys’ imagines a world in which superheroes really exist, with all of the flaws that real people have,” Moritz said. “The boys are there to make sure that people with superhuman powers don’t get out of line.”

No word yet if this will be a CG or live-action production.

If you are a big comics fan then the name Garth Ennis should sound familiar to you. He is the co-creator of another bestselling comic series called “Preacher,” which is currently being adapted as a HBO series.
