Top Ten Box Office Final — February 15-18, 2008

February 19, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

All totals are U.S. box office only. SF and genre-related films in bold.

The big news this past weekend was the Sunday surge of “The Spikerwick Chronicles.” Until the Sunday evening showing it was lagging in third place behind “Step Up 2 the Streets,” but fans made a big push before box office closing allowing the “Chronicles” to capture the second place spot.

“Jumper” showed strong in the U.S. but was even stronger on the international market, garnering $6.2 million (USD) from the U.K. alone. With the kinds of numbers “Jumper” and “The Spiderwick Chronicles” pulled in over a three day period (not counting the extra bump from the Jumper/Spiderwick Valentine’s Day opener), Fox/Regency and Paramount are already considering sequels to each pic.

It should be no surprise to anyone that the top two films in the U.S. and abroad are SF/fantasy adventures.
