“The Wolf Man” Update

January 30, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

wolfman-del-toro.jpgOn this past Saturday’s show we talked about the upcoming film, “The Wolf Man,” starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins and how it could spark a renewal in bringing back some of the classic 1930’s and 1940’s monsters such as Dracula and Frankenstein.

Now we have learned that the film has been hit with some disturbing news. The Universal Pictures project will be set back after the announcement that director Mark Romanek has walked away from the center chair. Romanek, best known for his directing Johnny Cash in his final award winning music video, “Hurt,” and writing and directing the dark and troubling screenplay for Robin Williams’ chilling portrayal in “One Hour Photo,” is leaving citing creative differences and arguments with Universal over the budget granted him for the production. The director was awarded $85 million for filming and $15 million for promotion, according to the studio.

Romanek’s departure is not related to but comes on the heels of Universal announcing the additions of Hopkins and Emily Blunt to the cast. “The Wolf Man,” originally set to begin production this March, will have to be delayed until a new director can be found. We will keep you posted.
