After spending 48 days at the Glendale City Jail on a drunken-driving charge, “24” actor Kiefer Sutherland has been released, according to the L.A. police department.
Sutherland’s time in jail wasn’t spent doing nothing, nor was he afforded celebrity treatment. He worked every day in the jail’s laundry facility washing prison sheets, pillowcases and blankets, according to a report by The Associated Press.
“He was very humble, never complained,” Prison Officer John Balian stated in a press release. “He didn’t give us any problems at all.”
Sutherland, was arrested in the fall of 2007 and pleaded no contest to the charges of driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08 percent. The judge sentenced him to 30 days, as well as 18 days for violating probation from a previous drunk driving arrest in 2004.
Sutherland will now commence with his five years on probation plus complete an 18-month alcohol education program, as well as attend weekly therapy sessions for the next six months.
Sutherland, had issued a statement after his initial booking and sentence stating how extremely “disappointed” he was in himself and his inability to get a grip on his drinking and his use of “poor judgment.” He went on to say, “I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers.”
Fans of the actor just hope this was the wake-up call he needed to get him sober and clean.
