Tekken Coming To Big Screen
Crystal Sky Pictures (”Ghost Rider,” “Doomsday”) is set to bring “Tekken,” one of Namco’s biggest selling Japanese video games to the big screen as a full feature. No word yet if the film will be animation, live-action or a combination of both.
Director Dwight Little (”Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid,” “Murder on 1600″) will helm the futuristic martial arts action film. With Little taking center seat it is most likely “Tekken” will be a live-action movie. He is very familiar with the martial arts genre, having directed such stars as Steven Seagal, Wesley Snipes and Brandon Lee in the past.
“The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people,” Little said in a recent interview iwth the Variety trade. “It’s a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular.”
“Tekken” sold in the millions of copies in Japan and will get its sixth release this January in the United States. Production on the “Tekken” movie is set to begin on February 4, 2008.
