I hadn’t heard it was going straight to DVD, but I guess it’s pretty hard to market an animated film to theaters that isn’t geared as warm ‘n fuzzy family fare.

I hate to say it–it’s not marketing an action cartoon that’s the problem. (Beowulf isn’t exactly warm and fuzzy holiday movie.) It’s the fact that the animation is krahp.
Sorry, it has to be said. The voice cast is amazing, the music is amazing, the script may be amazing, it’s based on amazing mythos–but the animation in the official trailer is horrible! It looks like old 1980’s He-Man type animation. With 1990’s video game CGI thrown in, which is more of a distraction and completely destroys any visual continuity (as if watching badly drawn 80’s style animation could create a continuity.) It was really heart-breaking to see what they did to this.

ICK! I saw this last night. I would gouge out my eyes and ears but it would would not help get the horror of this abomination out of my head.
I don’t know where to start. 80’s animation with CGI draconians? It’s odd and doesn’t work, just pick one style or another please. Music was okay. Voice cast were nice choices, but their performances were terible. It sounded like they’d rather be out watering their lawn or something.
And the script? I have no idea how you muff things up SO badly with such great material. Wow…just wow.
I actually hope they DON’T make the other two books of the trilogy. It’s just that bad.

I just found out about this DVD & ordered it without giving it a second thought. I’ve seen the animation & I don’t care what it looks like. I would’ve gladly paid $50 for this DVD & I’d prepay another $100 for the next two if it would guarentee I’d have them within the next couple years. I haven’t read a D&D book in at least 7 years but any store that has a DragonLance DVD on a shelf will get my money.
