A first edition copy of J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter novel in pristine condition was sold this week at auction for nearly $41,000 (USD).
It was the hardback copy of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” (aka — “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”) which was signed on the back of the title page by Rowling as “Joanne Rowling.” That form of signature was the primary reason the book went for such a high price.
The book was published by Bloomsbury PLC. The auction took place at Christie’s Auction House and was purchased by an annoymous private telephone bidder.
Last May another “Philosopher Stone” volume sold for over $55,000 (USD). It too was signed by Rowling and this one also had a special dedication hand-written by the author to its owner.
