Morissette Joins Cast Showcasing P.K. Dick’s Life
Singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette has joined the cast of sci-fi novelist Philip K. Dick’s semi-autobiographical feature film adaptation “Radio Free Albemuth,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be based on some of Dick’s own drug-induced visions from the 1970’s.
The popular singer is no stranger to acting. She has appeared in such small screen venus as FX Network’s “Nip/Tuck,” “American Dreams,” and has been seen on the big screen in features like “Dogma,” in which she played God and the Cole Porter bio-flick “De-lovely” opposite Kevin Kline, Ashley Judd and Jonathan Pryce.
Alanis will play the part of Sylvia, a woman described in the script as suffering from lymphoma. After Nick, a record label exec played by Jonathan Scarfe, has a vision of her as this wraith-like singer, he hires Sylvia as his secretary.
“I am a big fan of Philip K. Dick’s poetic and expansively imaginative books,” Morissette said. “I feel blessed to portray Sylvia, and to be part of this story being told in film.”
Eventually, the two develop this close knit, almost spiritual relationship. Nick and Sylvia share more than their lives together, they actually have the same visions.
“Radio Free Albemuth” is already shooting so isn’t expected to be delayed by a possible writer’s strike.
