Well kids, I’m still out of town but have found a few minutes to bring everyone up-to-date on a few items for a short news brief.
French filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have signed up to do the writing and directing for a remake of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror film “Hellraiser” for Dimension Films. Barker is on tap to produce.
Nicholas Cage’s sequel film “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” debuts in theaters om December 21, 2007. Cage is now set to shoot the new political thriller “The Vanished,” a story about a father in search of his American-born Muslim son, who’s missing overseas.
Gary Fleder is attached to direct and produce the thriller “Darkling Cove.” The film revolves around a young woman who moves to a small beach town to recover from a traumatic event and winds up unearthing a crime.
Variety on Wednesday launches VarietyJapan.com, the first dailyJapanese-language website that will provide daily coverage ofentertainment industry in Japan and Hollywood.
The new ABC Family original movie “Nature of the Beast” and the basic cable premieres of “An American Haunting” and “Boogeyman” will join other Halloween/Horror themed programming airing the 13 nights leading up to Halloween October 19 — October 31.

In an interesting move from the leaders of film studios and television networks, their proposal to revamp residuals for writers has been taken off the table. The decision was designed to cool off Hollywood’s strike fever, according to Variety. Both sides if the negotiations remain far apart, but this might indicate a cooling off of the more radical feelings that have been issued from the parties involved. If an agreement can’t be reached by October 31, 2007 a strike by the Writers Guild of American will be called.
