Giovanni Ribisi has landed a role in the James Cameron feature 3-D film “Avatar,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will play the part of Selfridge, a character with a passive-aggressive personality – which is perfect casting because this kind of role is what Ribisi does best.
Already signed to the cast are Sam Worthington (“Rogue”), Zoe Saldana (“Star Trek”), Sigourney Weaver (“Alien”) and Michelle Rodriques (“Lost”).
“Avatar” takes place in the distant future where Worthington’s character, Jake Skully, is a paraplegic war veteran who is brought to a planet called Pandora. The planet is is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture and hostilities between the two species commence.
The film co-stars CCH Pounder (“The Shield”) Wes Studi (“Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”) and Joel David Moore (“The Dead One”). Look for “Avatar” to be in theaters on May 22, 2009.
