The “second season” of the remastered “Star Trek” begins this weekend with a classic first-season episode “The Galileo Seven.”

CBS/Paramount’s official web site has released a few teaser images from this episode, which is among one of the more effects intensive of the first-season stories.

“The Galileo Seven” find the Enterprise investigating Muraskis 312, a quasar-like phenomeon. The ship is en-route to deliver medical supplies to Makus III, a planet suffering from a plague, but has time to stop off and explore the nebula. A shuttlecraft with Spock in command is launched and then lost within the storm, leaving the Enterprise in a race against time to find it and the shuttle crew struggling to survive on a hostile world.

The story is a one of the stronger entries from the first dozen episodes of classic “Trek.” And it does feature a lot of potentially great new effect sequences with the two ships exploring the nebula.

The official Star Trek web-site has an updated list of when and where this episode will be playing in your area.
