The Harry Potter film series has become the biggest in box office history, beating James Bond and Star Wars, according to BBC News.
The total for all five Potter films has grossed over $4.47 billion (USD). Bond sits second with $4.44 billion. However, Potter has done in 5 films what it has taken Bond 22 films and nearly 40 years to do. The total for six Star War is $4.23 billion.
With two more Harry Potter films yet to be released, it is likely that this franchise will hold the record for several generations to come.

…and we can thank the all of the parent and christian groups that were against the books from the beginning for helping to publicize these books and movies.

Mike, this is one of those few times when stupid people *don’t* piss me off. They instead make me happy by promoting good stuff, if inadvertantly.

Erm… here’s an idea: calculate box office totals based on a certain year’s dollars, like 2007 dollars. Without taking inflation into account, “top box office” records will constantly be broken, and constantly be meaningless.
For example, NOT adjusted for inflation, Star Wars: A New Hope made $460,998,007, compared to the biggest Harry Potter film, Sorcerer’s Stone, which made $317,575,550. Pretty close, right?
No, not at all. Adjusted for inflation, the first Star Wars film made $1,172,026,900, while the first Harry Potter made a mere $367,907,400.
Such a crazy way to measure things. “Most expensive bread ever!”
