New “Bionic Woman” Loses Important Showrunner — Stays on Schedule

September 7, 2007 by Sam Sloan   || Category: TV News

Producer David Eick of “Battlestar Galactica” has reimagined it, but “The X-Files” alum, Glen Morgan is one of its main showrunners and he has left the project.

NBC Universal has cited the old familiar “creative differences” as the reason for Morgan’s departure.

Morgan’s job as one of the series producers was to help take some of the grinding day-to-day heavy lifting off the back of Eick, but now that will fall to executive producer and screenwriter Jason Smilovic, according to Variety.

Morgan’s exit from the show will not delay the the premiere of “Bionic Woman, according to a NBC spokesperson, who also laid to rest any rumor that the new show was shutting down production. However, the production staff will soon take a short break to shore up the gap left by Morgan and take a new look at the future direction of the show for its late debut season episodes. NBC also wants to get as much from the writers as they can before any possible writer’s strike that could occur if negotiations between studios, networks and WGA fall apart.

On the surface that might sound like a warning about the quality of the show, but after seeing an early screening of the pilot episode, I don’t think there will be any doubt in any fan’s mind that NBC has a new hit on their hands, as long as they don’t try to mess with it.

I have to agree, I also saw the pre-air pilot episode and was pleasantly surprised (unlike with Flush Gordon) and look forward to more episodes.

I hope this news doesn’t screw it up either.

I’ve probably tempted fate now and they’ll cancel it in a few episodes times :-(

well a friend of mine has seen the pilot and confirms what i thought after seeing just the few minutes of clips publicly released - that it looks absolutely terrible. i doubt it’ll make it past 6 episodes. don’t kid yourself, most certainly having one of the main showrunners leave is not a good sign.

Keep in mind that the pre-air pilot that went around is being partially reshot with a new sister for the Bionic Woman who is older and not deaf.

That said, the pilot was *boring*. Hopefully the show gets better as it goes along.

I saw the pilot at Comic Con.
It had some *potential*, but overall there were a LOT of problems. HUGE logic holes everywhere, sfx that looked cheesy, and an occasional bit of dialogue that made you wince.

Unless the final version of the pilot is substantially better, I wouldn’t expect this show to last long.
