U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont has a part in the next Batman movie, “The Dark Knight.” I’m tempted to say, since he is a politician, that he will appear as Two-Face, however, that is not the case. In the real world of politics Leahy serves as the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Democratic Party.
The Senator has a scene with Christian Bale (Batman), Michael Caine (Alfred) and Heath Ledger (The Joker).
The Senator is a real, honest-to-goodness Batman geek. This isn’t the first time he has worked on a Batman project. Leahy wrote the preface for a Batman novel, briefly appeared in two other feature Batman films and did voice work on in the Batman animation series.
“I don’t wear tights,” the Vermont Democrat said, but he will appear as “the distinguished gentleman,” whatever that may mean.
“It’s a pretty tense scene,” said Leahy. “It’s going to be a very interesting one.”
To avoid the appearance of impropriety, the Senator, so not to personally profit from his earnings, will donate his earnings from the film to the Kellogg-Hubbard children’s library in Montpelier, a favorite project of his.
