You knew it had to happen….first “Speed Racer” is being filmed for the big screen as a live-action flick and now Warner Bros. has decided it’s time to take the Hanna-Barbera Jonny Quest animated TV series and turn it into a live-action, big screen epic as well.
The series that centered on a young lad who travels with his scientist father to the far reaches of the planet has been secured by the studio and will be turned over to video game “Hitman” gurus Adrian Askariah and Daniel Alter to produce, according to Variety.
The original animated series came out in the 1960’s for one season then saw a revival in the 80’s with a follow-up series in the 90’s on the Cartoon Network, which resulted in a comic book adaptation.
Now Jonny, his father, adopted brother, his dog Bandit and the secret government agent assigned to protect them can continue their adventures investigating strange and bizarre scientific wonders all over the globe on the big screen and in live-action.
Screenwriter Dan Mazeau (“Land of Lost Things”) will pen the script. Since this project has just been announced, casting and behind-the-camera crew are yet to be named. Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi.com for future details.

If they set it as in the period of the original I might be interested, but as it won’t be *yawn*

Could be cool, but if it doesn’t match the writing quality of “The Venture Brothers”, well, it would pale in comparison and certainly be subject to widespread ridicule.
The thing about the original series was that, even though it was ostensibly a kid’s show, it didn’t look or sound like a kid’s show, at least not to kids. It looked like nothing else on the air at the time; carefully drawn, smartly scripted, gritty action, just the thing for pre-adolescent to early adolescent boys tired of typical (for the time) superhero stuff.
