“The Bourne Ultimatum,” the third film in the Bourne franchise starring Matt Damon breaks box office records for a weekend showing. The movie has been rated to have the best spy oriented opening on record. It surpassed previous record holder, Daniel Craig’s “Casino Royale” (or any other Bond flick for that matter) and its own predecessors Bourne 1 and 2.
With several more hours left until the final weekend tally is counted, “The Bourne Ultimatum” has already grossed over $70 million dollars in the U.S. alone.
Coming in at number two is “The Simpsons Movie,” adding to its impressive figures from last weekend. The new entry, “Underdog,” a live-action re-imaging of the one-time popular TV canine superhero struggled for third at $12 million.
Rounding out this weekend’s (Aug. 3-5, 2007) Top 5 are the surprise Adam Sandler/Kevin James comedy hit “Chuck and Larry” and the John Waters remake of “Hairspray” starring veteran actors Christopher Walken, John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Jerry Stiller and newcomer Nikki Blonsky.
We will have the full Top Ten box office numbers for you later in the week.
