XM/Sirius Merger May Spark Lower Subscription Cost

2007_07_23t110534_334×450_us_xm_sirius.jpgNEW YORK (Reuters) – Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. said on Monday they would offer a subscription package priced 46 percent below current levels, and would also let customers buy packages of their favorite channels, after their proposed merger.

The planned “a la carte” programming would be available beginning within one year following the merger, which the companies hope to complete later this year.

The deal, which faces strong opposition from traditional radio and some lawmakers, must still past regulatory hurdles.

  1. Hmmmm,,,,has a merger into a mega-corp/monopoly ever led to lower prices....Kinda like saying If you sell me park place to go with my board walk, I promise not to build any houses.

There's more disappointment. My favorite channel on XM's lineup is Sonic Theater. I enjoyed the audio novels, plays, radio dramas. LA Theater Works and others have classic plays on Sonic Theater. I discovered Slice of Scifi on Sonic Theater. XM has decided to take it off the air on the weekends. That's the only time adults like me can enjoy a whole play, etc. It's wonderful content, but they're screwing it up.

Skip I'm there with you! I discovered Slice on Sonic Theater, I'm really upset they are screwing up the schedule.

Slice of SciFi can now be heard on Monday night on the Sonic Channel. It will be interesting to see what happens with us and a lot of others if and when this merger takes place. One fortunate thing for Slice is that we are the only SciFi news and intertainment show on either company's schedule, which may serve us well if the two become one.

All our fans need to continue letting XM know about your love for the Slice of SciFi show.
