Sci-Fi Classics Remade: Writer’s Challenge Update
We briefly mentioned this a few weeks ago in passing during another story, but wanted to update you and give you more detailed information for the Sci-Fi Classics Remade Writer’s Challenge.
Have you ever written something for a newsletter or blog and thought: That’s as good as anything you’ll see in a magazine? Ever wanted your material to be read by an international readership of thousands? Well, here’s your chance!
For the first time ever, Sci Fi Studios Magazine (SFS) and Hailing Frequencies Open (HFO) newsletter are joining forces. As a special combined event, the two will share a common theme for their August editions and they are sending out an invitation to sci-fi fans all around the world to contribute.
SFS Magazine is a new online, bimonthly webzine headed by Larry Nemecek, managing editor of the Star Trek Communicator Magazine and author of the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion from Pocket Books. SFS Magazine is a fan-driven publication, with a dedicated writing staff that brings its readers issues jam-packed with everything and anything sci-fi and fantasy related.
HFO marks a watershed this issue as it widens its scope from Star Trek, as the newsletter of TrekUnited, to the world of sci-fi in general now as the official newsletter for the SciFiUnited network. With over 20 issues already produced, this publication has a solid readership of thousands of people every issue.
For the month of July, the SFS Magazine and HFO staffs are inviting you to join in as they take a look back at sci-fi shows and movies that have been retold, remade, revived or continued from the archives of sci-fi, under the theme, “Rewind: Sci-Fi Retold!” They are asking aspiring writers and sci-fi fans to contribute reviews, commentaries, profiles… If it fits the theme, they will consider it. It could be anything from Battlestar Galactica to Star Trek, Superman to Spiderman, Star Wars, Dr Who, Planet of the Apes, War of the Worlds, Lost in Space, King Kong, Batman, The Time Machine … the list is endless!
This could be your big chance to get the kind of exposure that money can’t buy. While HFO and SFS Magazine can’t offer any payment for these submissions, they will provide a platform for you to get your work out in front of our thousands of readers. Don’t sell yourself short by assuming that your writing may not be good enough; give it try—you may surprise yourself!
SFS/HFO will be accepting submissions of 400-2000 words written on the theme outlined above. It will be competitive so good grammar, sentence structure and composition will count in your favor. Not every submission will be published, but every contribution will be considered by the editors and acknowledged in both publications. Outstanding contributors will be invited to contribute on a regular basis at the discretion of the publishers.
Send your submissions to Sci Fi Studios Magazine (sci-fi articles): maginput@gmail.com Submissions open until: July 20, 2007.
OR
Hailing Frequencies Open (For Star Trek and sci-fi articles): newsletter@trekunited.com Submissions open until: July 20, 2007.
Regardless of which address you submit your article to, the decision as to which publication it will appear in will be up to the editorial staff. While they will work with you to refine your submissions, editorial decisions are final.
