"Torchwood" Coming To U.S. Television?

Hello Mike and Slicers,

Like me you all like “Torchwood” — of course we know it aired late last year (around December in the U.K.) and I remember this quote from your December show:

” Eric in Sydney highly recommends “Torchwood”… too bad it’ll never air on US television”

Well I just found out that BBC America is airing Torchwood in September 2007. Imagine that, it will still probably be cut up a bit, but who knows.

Anyway, have a good weekend.

Torchwood was a little 'hit and miss' for me. Not a bad show - but it seemed to lack something towards the end of the first season.

Hopefully season two has some solid storylines in the hopper.

You are suprised that BBC America is showing Torchwood? BBC America is the USA arm of the company that made the show, so if they cannot sell it over there they are obviously going to use it themselves.

As to being cut in America: The moment I saw the scene in episode 2, where a couple are having sex in a nightclub toilet while the security guard watches on the security monitor and masturbates, I realised that they might have a slight problem showing this uncut in the US :-)

Don't forget all the bad language that was in the show. I was quite surprised that the BBS allowed it. I guess the Brit's are not as prudish as us Americans. :)

    We're not. No offense intended.

RE: “I guess the Brit’s are not as prudish as us Americans” We really work the 'watershed'. Programs shown before 9pm have to be nice and clean, we even censor some US shows if shown before then (including Buffy, Simpsons, and Star Trek). After 9pm things get more relaxed, and some shows take it to the limit (I shall never forget the shock I got when watching a Channel 4 crime drama that included a fairly long scene showing a woman being anally raped!). However we are still pretty strict compared with some European countries.

  6. Dawn says:

Damn, what was that? I missed it. I agree, we don't go as far as some of the Continentals, but it's not actually WE, the PUBLIC who are the prudes, it's that overbearing, censoring nanny state government who think they know what's best for us. No sex on tv, no smoking, watch your drinking. They'll be telling us we can't drink, smoke or shag in the privacy of our own homes next! (sorry, rant over).

Guys, I was a little surprised that they were showing it so soon, yes.. but not surprised at all that BBC-A was showing it.. :)

Luckily I have seen, and still have, all the S1 Uncut shows on my HDD.. :) But it will be neat to see them on the tv too.. :)

Anyway, I wasn't sure if SoSF had heard and that was the reason I had emailed him. I did actually like torchwood alot more than I thought..

And yes, I do suspect they will either cut alot of that out of there.. or show it LATE at night as they did with Coupling.. Coupling was on later than usual and they did get around some things that would have been censored.. I remember the first time I heard the F-Bomb dropped on BBCA .. that totally floored me.. Anyway, I was just bringing a little tidbit to those who may have NOT seen it via other means :D

    Enjoy your Summer guys.

I've heard that Torchwood will also be aired here in Canada but honestly with all the restrictions on Canadian Television by the time they edit and "cut" all the censored stuff out there won't be much of the show left to watch.

It's completely idiotic but that's the way it is.

  9. tllgrrl says:

    Um...BBC America isn't technically "U.S. Television".
The show is, as Russel T. Davies put it, an "adult" TV show.
No chance of it EVER being broadcast here without being edited down to pretty much nothing.
I was hoping that I could buy Torchwood Season One on Amazon. I did find it...at Amazon UK. Region 2 DVD.
We can't even BUY the series here!
    WTF?!
All I can say is this: BT AIRLINES RULES!

Im american and im not prude at all, i wish there were more shows like that, you Brits have it made.
