Almost a year ago Fox backed out of the deal to co-produce the Microsoft game-to-film version of “Halo,” but now they have decided to return to the table.
Fox’s earlier pull-out caused significant delays in the production of the enterprise, leaving the other company behind the production, Universal Pictures, in a lurch. However, 20th Century Fox is back and has gotten the deal they wanted in the first place — the primary licensor of “Halo” for worldwide distribution of the film for Microsoft, and its main distributor of related products.
A spokesperson said the deal was finally handed to Fox because of Fox’s history of focusing its concerns on the teen and young adult market instead of younger kids. “Halo” is not a game for younger children and Fox is sensitive to that concept.
Along with the film, Fox will also launch campaigns that include collectibles, books and other merchandise that will appeal to the target audience of the “Halo” and gaming crowd. The big merchandising push will begin in September which will coincide with “Halo’s” expected release date.
The fourth “Halo” game may be out in just a few years. “Halo” is the gaming industry’s most successful videogame, selling in the billions of dollars, keeping Microsoft in it as one of gaming’s major players.

Halo 3 come out on Sep 25th of this year. There will be no Halo 4, and that comes from the creators. However, there is a Halo Wars game (a RTS game instead of the first person shooters of Halo 1-3) and another Halo game being made by Peter Jackson’s game studio.
I’m really glad this movie looks like its back on the table. This could very well end the horrible trend of video games to movies. The creators of the Halo universe have created a very detailed world that you only see a little of in the games. There are 4 halo books and a Graphic Novel in stores, another book coming this fall and a comic coming soon.
I highly recommend the books. The first book covers the creation of the Spartan-IIs and leads up to the beginning of the First Halo game. The second book is the novelization of the first game. The third books covers the story between the first and second game. The forth book mostly takes place along side the events in Halo 2, but follows a few Spartan-IIs and a squad of Spartan-IIIs. The fourth book that is comming covers the events of the first meeting between Humans and the Covenant (the bad guys). While the books may not change your view on life, the universe, and everything, they have a good story and are a fun read.
