“Blood Ties” Author Tanya Huff On Slice of SciFi Show #114

June 17, 2007 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Coming to Slice

This week we move our show to it new day — Thursday

Fantasy author and screenwriter Tanya Huff is our special guest for Slice of SciFi Show #114.

Tanya is from Canada and has earned herself the prestigious position of being one of the world’s most prominent contemporary fantasy writers living today. Her series books like “The Keeper’s Chronicles,” The Quarters Series” and the “Crystal” novels have established her within the literary field, but it is her tales from the “Blood Books” that has placed her solidly in the ranks of the greats in today’s genre literature.

The “Blood Books” were adapted for the small screen this year in Canada under the title “Blood Ties,” and picked up in the United States by the Lifetime cable network where the series has become that network’s first real bona-fide hit show. The basic premise of the show follows the investigations and life of a young female cop (Vickie Nelson), played by Christina Cox, who begins going blind, quits the force and creates her own private investigative agency. She teams up with a 450 year old vampire, who it turns out is the illegitimate son of Henry the VIII, and he becomes our heroine’s love interest.

In the News:

David Eick, co-producer for “Battlestar Galactica,” plans on continuing to work with various members of the cast and crew of the show once it is over. He will be drafting them for many of his future projects. Director Zack Snyder was so impressed with Gerard Butler’s performance in “300″ that he will let the actor take any role he wants in the big screen adaptation of Alan Moore’s “Watchmen.” There is just one little catch to it though. William Shatner and his wife Elizabeth were shocked to learn of the lack of basic necessities needed by soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. We’ll share with you how you can help Bill and Elizabeth do something about this deplorable situation.

Movie Talk:

From the imaginations of best-selling author Neil Gaiman and director Matthew Vaughn comes the the beautifully told fantasy “Stardust.” This star-studded cast, the film’s grand themes and imaginative-sparking elements will make you fall in love all over again with the fairytale genre.

The boys from MoviePulse.net are on hand in our Special Segment this week to give us their two-thumbs up review of Kevin Costner’s gripping thriller “Mr. Brooks.”

TV Talk:

We spend this whole segment updating you on the latest casting news, story-lines and some possible surprises that will await you on Season Four of “Stargate: Atlantis” when it returns this fall.

Future Talk:

We take a look into the future and gaze at two films that have absolutely nothing in common. One is a horror remake called “Prom Night” and the other is the stunningly beautiful film “The Golden Compass” based on Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy.

There you have it. Slice moves to its new day — Thursday, with a great Tanya Huff interview — lots of great news and information about upcoming events, movies and television programs — and, an excellent movie review. Who could ask for more? O wait! We do have more — We will have our three top winners of the “Return of Kyle XY” contest posted in the show notes for this show and we begin an all new giveaway featuring two Godzilla DVD’s. Also be listening for an announcement about a special event called “E-Day” being held by our friends over at Trek United.
