**Announcement — Slice of SciFi Programming Change**

June 15, 2007 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Podcasting

Beginning with Slice of SciFi Show #114 on June 21, 2007, we are changing the release day for all future shows. In order to better sync with XM-Satellite Radio, new episodes for the Slice of SciFi Show will be ready for download on Thursday instead of Wednesday as is the current scheduling period.

The Voice Mail show will move from Tuesday to Wednesday starting June 20, 2007.

For our LIVE FEED listeners the Slice of SciFi Voice Mail and regular show will now be recorded on Thursday evenings at approximately 5:30PM Mountain (Arizona) Time.

We look forward to continue bringing you our best in scifi and genre related news and interviews on this new day beginning next week.

    Were you recording today (6/14)?

Thanks for the update, guys. With all the changes at FPM we get nervous. Is anybody ever going to explain or even comment on what happened with Evo? We really don’t need all the gorey details, but you should at least acknowledge and provide some sort of explanation.

Well that kinda blows … listening to the live feed on Saturdays is a lot of fun. With this change on top of WI’s planned podfade…that kind of kills the Saturday fun. That and Thursdays sucks for trying to listen live as that when some good shows are on.

What seemed like fun to the LIVE FEED audience was Hectic Mayhem for us in the studio and those, like myself, trying to keep the show on flow from a distance of 1200 miles. Saturday has always been a troubling time to try and get this done. We need that day to try and get in as many interviews as we can because that is the day that most actors, authors, and production people are available. It is also the time we try and get our movie reviews with the guys from Movie Pulse recorded. On top of that we are trying to pump out two voicemail shows and two regular shows. With people coming in and out from two different shows, plus any guests we may have in the studio at the time, it was really taking its toll on the staff and it was becoming evident on the quality of our programming.

We decided to move the recording date of Slice to Thursday beginning around 5:30PM Arizona (USA) time. The staff is well rested, sharp, witty, which became evident very quickly on our first trial run of using that night this week for the show that will air on Thursday, June 21. So, we are happy with the decision and hope all of you will eventually be as well.

The other reason for the change had to do with our XM Radio sync. Thursday simply makes for a better linkup with XM now that we will be getting our show to the net and XM at the same time instead of that one week delay that our XM listeners so hated.

The LIVE FEED will continue to be up for the recording of the show on Thursday nights as is the Chat Room. So, come on over on Thursday and make a night of it with us at Slice of SciFi.

I will only briefly talk about Evo leaving the various shows he was a part of, specifically WI and SoSF, because everyone is concerned and thinking that something terrible happened. That is not the case. As can happen with partnerships there may come a time with the vision and direction of the partnership may begin going in different directions, demands on time from various projects may ensue, availablity may become an issue, demands from more important areas of life become an important factor and, yes, personality clashes can occur. It happens all the time - Huntley/Brinkley, Martin/Lewis, Sinatra/Lawford, Anakin & Obi Wan [ :) ], and the list can go on and on. We know it came as a shock to listeners to have him there one day and not the next, but as in most things, it wasn’t a total surprise to us here behind the scene. Not really much more to tell or say on the matter. Like most things in life there is a beginning, a middle and an end. Evo’s involvement with these shows, at least for the current time here reached that end point. The future has not yet been written and you never know - there could be a new beginning running headlong to its middle and end.

Evo is doing well. He is a very busy and industrious guy. We do miss him and wish him nothing but the best in everything he puts his hand to.

Well, you’re shattering some of my Saturday planning while in the USA. Let me tell you.

ok… need to be Phoenix for a Sat WI… then try to crash the Babylon podcast.. what’s that? Wed? Thursday is for Slice….. Weird Al is playing what night again?

    Where’s my timetable…

    PfA.

  6. Sam on June 15th, 2007 5:14 pm

    Sat - WI, Wed - B5 and C2C, Thurs - SoSF

  7. Kurt on June 15th, 2007 6:39 pm

Do they run the live feed for c2c too?

  8. Sam on June 15th, 2007 7:32 pm

That I couldn’t tell you. I don’t produce B5 or C2C, that’s Summer’s ballywick. I produce SoSF and direct the news for most of Farpoint’s websites that carry news on them. When it comes to recording habits on shows other than SoSF and SoSF Voicemail, I am as much in the dark as the rest of floundering humanity. ;)

    17:30 Mountain….that’s 01:30 in Europe…there goes my listening to the feed…. :(

WI and WI VM will still run on Saturdays, starting between noon-1pm AZ time. Not sure yet if any other shows will switch their recording to Saturdays to fill the gap (damn, but I wish Dave M could do Saturdays because I’d move Ninjas there and eliminate all of the recording issues on my end!)

Sometimes we have run the Wednesday live feed for C2C, if there are no interviews scheduled that day, and if things seem to be getting goofy enough to be fun.

The Wednesday feed is definitely up between 5:30-6pm AZ time for B5, and Mario, don’t feel bad… we have people getting up around 4am in the Netherlands to listen to the B5 feed… every week.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love our fans and listeners?

::: sigh ::: Looks like I’ll have to “acquire” SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL and watch ‘em on Fridays.

  12. Kurt in St George on June 16th, 2007 9:50 am

Well this makes room for a Babylon 5 voice-mail show on Saturday.

That idea should give Mike a scare. (Actually, it should make him go running and screaming into the night.)

Thanks, Sam, for keeping all us listeners informed about what’s happening. Podcasting is a very intimate medium, much like radio only more so because the community is much smaller. It makes sense tht you have to move the live feeds to accomodate the XM releases. I don’t listen to the live feed, but I live with my iPod and can’t wait to get the latest edition of everything FarPoint. I’ll miss Evo, but I understand creative differences. Stuff happens but I’m glad he’s OK.
