SCI FI continues their tradition of bringing campy, original sci-fi movies to the small screen this Saturday with the world-premiere of “Ice Spiders.”
Patrick Muldoon, who headlines the original SCI FI production, recently took a few moments to talk about his character and the movie at SciFi Wire. He plays a regular guy who’s unexpectedly called upon to be the hero when giant spiders attack a ski resort.
“I’m playing Dash, a one-time Olympic hopeful who had a bad ski accident that resulted in him being a ski instructor rather than an Olympic champion,” Muldoon said “He finds himself with Stephen Cannell as his boss, and he learns that there are giant spiders eating skiers on the ski slopes, and Dash has to help save the day.”
Muldoon said the movie is about fun. “It’s not a drama about spiders on a ski slope,” he said. “It’s tongue in cheek. It’s a rock-and-roll, sci-fi/horror film, and it’s so much fun. Obviously, for me, it’s reminiscent of the “Starship Troopers” days, but I want everyone to know that in this movie I do not get my brain sucked out.”
“Ice Spiders” is also something of a” Melrose Place” reunion. Muldoon, who spent parts of a couple of seasons on the prime-time soap opera, is joined by fellow “Place” veterans Thomas Calabro and Vanessa Williams. Calabro plays a military man trying to keep the spiders under control, while Williams co-stars as a colleague of the scientist who’s breeding the spiders.
Even better: Muldoon performs a song. “I’m really excited about that,” he said. “I wrote and performed with my band the end-title sequence song, which is called ‘Get Off.’ And my band is called The Sleeping Masses. If you see the flick and like the song, you can get it on iTunes. It’s really kind of a kick-ass song.”
“Ice Spiders” debuts this Saturday at 9 p.m. EST.
