If, by the last ticket sold tonight, the box office tally continues as it has since Friday, Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of his motley crew aboard the Black Pearl will continue their reign as the leading film for the weekend.
The comedy “Knocked Up,” hanging in there at number two, hasn’t knock-out “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” from the top spot, coming nearly $20 million shy of this weekend’s “Pirates” take.
Coming in on “Knocked Up’s” coat-tails is “Shrek the Third,” holding easily to third and only about $2.3 million short of grabbing back second place. This is one that could change before the end of the evening.
Fourth is the new Kevin Costner entry, “Mr. Brooks,” making a good showing against the top 3 ticket selling giants. And, “Spider Man 3” is rounding out the Top Five films.
We will have the Top Ten U.S. box office final for you later in the week.
