Author Jim Butcher On Slice of SciFi Show #112, June 6, 2007
We caught of with author Jim Butcher at this year’s Arizona Book Fair and snagged him for an interview for Slice of SciFi and our sister program The Dragon Page - Cover to Cover. Jim was a guest on Slice back in October of last year when “The Dresden Files” had first debuted on television, and it is always good when we can get him to return to the show.
Jim gives us an update of what is happening with “The Dresden Files” on television over at the SCI FI Channel, as well as, what he has been up to lately in the novel department, especially his fantasy series “Codex Alera,” the stories which chronicle the life of a man named Tavi in the empire of Alera on the world of Carna.
In the News:
Our news segment has three stories all dealing with a remake of one kind or another. Andrew Tennenbaum, the guy behind the “Bourne” franchise has decided to take on a remake of the Hong Kong martial arts comedy film “Enter the Phoenix.” David E. Kelley has hired his friend Thomas Schlamme to direct the pilot episode of Kelley’s Americanized ABC version of the British television show “Life On Mars.” Wes Craven has signed up Dennis Iliadis to direct and Adam Alleca to write an updated script for a re-do of Craven’s first ever successful classic film “The Last House On the Left.”
Movie Talk:
IMAX is becoming the new craze for Hollywood producers and directors lately. The next big film to tackle the hi-tech IMAX format will be Chris Nolan’s “Batman: The Dark Knight.”
In our Special Segment this week, the boys from MoviePulse.net dropped by the studio and gave us the rundown on “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” with an indepth review.
TV Talk:
We address the concerns of viewers over the British tabloid “The Sun” and its insistence on reporting the demise of “Doctor Who” and its two top actors. The BBC has assured us that the show and the cast are very stable. Also on tap is a look at the return of the surprise ABC Family Network hit show “Kyle XY.” It returns on June 17 for a second season of all new episodes.
Slice of SciFi, in conjunction with the ABC Family Network, are holding a “Return of Kyle XY” contest so be sure to listen to the show to learn how to enter and what the top three winners will receive.
Future Talk:
We take a look into our crystal ball to Christmas, December 25, 2007 and look at two of the mega films to be released for the holiday season.
First up is the sequel to “AVP” entitled “Alien vs Predator 2″ and the second film, which is a little more oriented for the whole family is “The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep.”
We have a show jam-packed with news, film and TV updates, a “Pirates” movie review and that great interview with Jim Butcher. The Slice of SciFi Show #112 will be ready for you to download online June 6, 2007 and is available on XM Satellite Radio one week later.

Am I the only one who reckons that US television should leave British shows the hell alone? The Office got lucky and managed to break out, but for the love of God, what the hell makes them think they can remake Life on Mars?!?
They can’t. It will be a disaster. But somebody in TV land has decreed this the “Year of SciFi” because of the success of Heroes (and maybe Galactica). So now everybody is scrambling to find SF properties and since they can’t steal the good Doctor from the BBC they’ll try something else. Ugh!
