This series has been disjointed, but has been consistently saved by fine performances by the ensemble and some nice production values - its been getting steadily better. Does anyone know if it will be returned for a season 1.5 or 2?
No confirmation from SciFi Channel on a Season 2 yet, but after chatting with Jim Butcher yesterday about it, I sure hope they give it the greenlight soon!

Damn! I really like this show. And it’s just starting to hit it’s stride. If it hasn’t been greenlighted yet it will be a year until we see any new episodes. By then, everyone will have moved on.
Have there been 12 episodes? I buy them on iTunes and only have 6.

This is number 12 and if I was an exec at Sci-Fi I wouldn’t green light it for a second series. I feel that they really screwed themselves hard with the odd viewing order. I have been waiting for this to hit the quality of the books and it just isn’t there. A real shame, but hardly a surprise.
I hope its mediocre reception doesn’t put Jim off to much.

The show got off to a slow start with screwed up playing order of episodes. Also, the first two or three episodes which were shown were pretty weak. However, as others have pointed out the last four or five episodes have been much better. I am beginning to like this show.
I hope it gets green lighted for a second season. If it does get a second season they need to resolve what Murphy knows about magic and how she knows. Also, the rules which Harry lives under needs a clearer explanation. Sometimes he tells Murphy a little of whats going on and other times he doesn’t. It got real annoying that sometimes Murphy knew some things and other times she didn’t have a clue.
Despite these criticisms I think The Dresden Files can continue to improve and should be picked up.

I just finished a four hour tivo-thon of The Dresden Files. I agree with others’ assessment that it started slow but accelerated into an enjoyable show quickly. I’m glad they didn’t leave it with a cliff-hanger (clearly because they weren’t sure about a second season).
In the season finale, detective Murphy’s father’s name was Joe Murphy. Was this a coincidence?
I know Joe (aka Mason Rocket, aka Randy Innuendo) received a voicemail from Yvonne Erlichman saying that the Dresden crew was pulling for him. Also, in a voicemail show in February, Joe specifically asked for a shout-out on The Dresden Files.
Does anyone know if detective Murphy’s father is mentioned by name in the books? Maybe someone could drop Jim Butcher a line and ask The Source.
It would be very cool if they changed the name to “Joe Murphy”. Even if it is just a coincidence, it was cool.

I noticed that as well Vern. Murphy’s Dad was named Joe. I don’t know if it was a coincidence or not but I like to think the Dresden crew are tipping their hat to our big damn hero.

I admit that being disappointed about the close of a TV show is probably symptomatic of needing to “get a life” but it’s been a rough year for me, and the escape that “Dresden Files” provided has been welcome. Dresden replaced my Ben & Jerry’s habit. If the show is cancelled, I know I’ll have “Bob” withdrawal, relapse to my old, gluttonous ways, and gain back the 11 lbs I lost. I hope that there is a second season, and at the least, that they will show reruns.

This show needs a second season if only because it needs more exploration and definition. I agree that the first episodes were weak, but what show really hits its stride during the first 4-5 episodes? It just needs to be good enough to continue to run so the story lines can congeal and characters develop.
I think the bigger problem in the early episodes was that the writers weren’t sure how closely to follow the books. The first couple were weak, but still enjoyable. As it followed the book storylines less stringently and focused on its own development, with the rules and feel of the books as a guide, it got better, and can, I think, continue to do so.

I wish SciFi like other companies would realize that most of us Tivo our shows now a days, and then watch a few episodes in a row to see if they are worth it. Too many shows only do 12 or so episodes, assuming we don’t have that long of an attention span. What this series has done, is turned me on to the books. If there is no season 2, I’ll start over w/ the books.
