A great ‘classic’ ep to enjoy. Thinking of Joe, and wishing you all well.

I’ve been sitting on this comment for about a year now.
This was my first episode of any FPM podcast. I happened to see on Mr. Wheaton’s blog that he was being interviewed and enjoying the things he’s done since he left my favorite show I thought I’d take a listen.
This show also happened to come out the week after I buried my lifelong friend who died at the age of 34 a few months before his 35th birthday. I’d known him since we were in second grade. He was the only person from my home town that I even spoke too in the over 15 years I’d left school and started my adult chapter of my life. It wasn’t even something as dramatic as cancer, it was a simple blood clot in his injured knee from high school (nothing glamourous like a foot ball injury, a wipe out in the parking lot on some ice) broke loose and lodge in his heart.
He was the last of the scifi geeks I knew, one of the friends you ran around at recess pretending you were in 1979 BSG Vipers, drawing pictures of the Enterprise, etc. We’d get together twice a year when I came home and it was guaranteed that I would be able to see a movie (two very small children/no babysitters in NC) that my wife had no desire to see. The last one we saw just a month earlier was Batman Begins.
Anyway this show came along and next thing I know I can get my geek on once a week and then with the voice mail feedback it created a pretty reasonable replacement that allowed me to enjoy what I’d lost with a whole new group of folks.
I was one of the weirdos that enjoyed the long VM episodes because it was fun to hear Mark from Memphis and everyone go on and on about stuff. I understand why you shortened it and all but the ‘early days’ of the VM show were my favorite.
So that’s why I’m particularly bummed about Joe moving on to the next level, even though he’s a person I never met in person nor even carried on a conversation with. His humor, his style, and his geek-fu was strong.
And I hope they get to meet wherever they are.

Thanks guys, you really put me on a downer when Summer said that Frank Welker would not by voicing Megatron in the upcoming Transformers movie. When I first heard that Frank was a possibility I was excited because that classic voice of Megatron is unmistakable and so identified with the character. I’ve got nothing against Hugo Weaving, I like him, but I so really wanted to hear Frank Welker again.
RIP Joe.

Thanks for the classic episode as well. This was also my first episode I ever listened to and only my second podcast I ever listened too. Saw the post on Wil’s blog and found my way here. Now I can’t leave….
