Jake Is Not the Captain

jake.jpgSeveral website last week reported that role of Captain Marvel in the upcoming “Shazam” movie would be played by actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Fortunately for us and our fans, Slice of SciFi was not one of those sites.

It appears the rumors of his casting were greatly exaggerated.

“Shazaam”’s writer John August refuted the rumor recently on his blog.

“According to the internet, Jake Gyllenhaal is playing Captain Marvel. I’ll be sure to let the studio, producers, and director know,” August said in a blog entry. He theorized that the high visibility of Gyllenhall in the recent release of “Zodiac” coupled with the rumors a few years ago that Glyenhall would replace Toby McGuire in “Spider-Man 2″ led to the mix-up.

As soon as any confirmed casting news for this role is available, we’ll let you know.

I’m glad they’re not considering him; he’s too old for Billy Batson and not nearly buff enough for Captain Marvel.

By the way, it’s Shazam, not Shazaam. :)

Are they talking about a remake of that godawful Shaq movie? (just kidding)

Completely agree with Tiktok of Oz. They need two actors: a kid for Billy Batson and a buff adult for the Captain. As much as I like Captain Marvel, I don’t know if I could watch it if they had the same actor playing both. Might as well call it “Superman” if you’re going to do that!
