Popular stand-up comedian and occasional movie star, Richard Jeni, has died, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Jeni was 45.
Jeni was popular on the stand-up circuit as well as being a regular guest on the Howard Stern radio show and made numerous appearances on “The Tonight Show.” Jeni was in the Jim Carrey hit, “The Mask” as the friend and co-worker to Carrey’s Stanley Ipkiss.
Jeni also headlines a number of stand-up specials for various cable outlets including HBO and Comedy Central.
Jeni was a graduate of New York City’s Hunter College with a degree in political science. Part of Jeni’s routine was a joke about his major saying, “Imagine my surprise when it turned out the main thing that I was qualified for was to get another degree and teach Political Science to other people, who would, in turn, teach it to other people! This wasn’t higher education, this was Amway with a football team!”
We at Slice of SciFi express our condolensces to the family and friends of Jeni on their loss.
