James Cawley Is Our Guest On Slice of SciFi Show #097

Written by: Samuel K. Sloan (SoSF Producer & Managing News Director)

James Cawley, co-creator and senior executive producer of the popular online Star Trek “New Voyages” series is our very special guest for Slice of SciFi show #097 due to air this Wednesday, February 21, 2007.

James also stars as the lead character Captain James T. Kirk, the role made famous by icon William Shatner in the original 1960′s Star Trek series. New Voyages takes up where the original series ended just as if the USS Enterprise would have done its full five year mission.

James talks about what the future holds for New Voyages, as well as, the highly anticipated upcoming episode “World Enough and Time” featuring the original series’ legendary actor George Takei who reprises Sulu — (to be aired this Spring).

James will also clue us in about an episode from the pen of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” screenwriter David Gerrold called “Blood and Fire,” which is set to begin shooting this coming June and he will tell us where this online franchise stands with Star Trek owner Paramount.

You will want to hear this interview with the man, who in my opinion, is single-handedly responsible for reviving Star Trek back into the forefront of every scifi follower’s mind, as well as reminding Paramount of just how important Roddenberry’s creation really is and that it still has lots of wind left in its sails.

On the rest of the show:

Lucas finds another way to pry a few more bucks from Star Wars fans by announcing the release of a DVD that will celebrate the franchise’s 30th Anniversary…David Arquette will get the opportunity to direct his sister Patricia in an episode of her popular NBC show “Medium”…and finally in news, the Frank Miller comic “Ronin” will get big screen treatment from young “Stomp the Yard” director Sylvain White.

In Movie Talk:

Hiliary Swank stars in the Warner Bros. film “The Reaping” a story about the return of the Biblical ten plagues to a small Louisiana town and the woman responsible for trying to figure out how to deal with the dark forces behind the tragedy.

It has taken awhile but the Robert Rodriquez and Quentin Tarantino collaboration known as “Grindhouse” is finally ready for release on April 6th.

TV Talk:

Battlestar Galactica gets the greenlight to do 13 new episodes for Season 4, but the SCI FI network is reserving judgment for later on if it will allow a Season 4.5 to go forward. We also have some BSG direct-to-DVD news.

Serenity’s Summer Glau is shooting a new pilot that, while she has been bound and gagged by FOX, preventing her from spilling the beans on what the show is and which role she will be playing, we are pretty confident it is “The Sarah Connor Chronicles.”

Future Talk:

We jump into our Slice of SciFi time machine to take a look at the new Vin Diesel film “Babylon A.D.” and for the kiddies, the new Veggies Tales flick “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.” Both films are due for a 2008 release.

James Cawley, a guest game review, and loads of news on Slice of SciFi Show #097 ready for download on February 21, 2007 and one week later on XM-Satellite Radio. ~~ BE THERE! ~~
