Stage Opera Hits Fright High Note for the Silver Screen

February 9, 2007 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

The screenwriting team of Terrance Zdunich and Darren Smith will be getting a big screen treatment on an original story they developed for the stage. “Repo! The Genetic Opera” is a futuristic horor tale of organ failure on epidemic proportions. The organ harvesting business comes up with this sick, but ingenious plan to mass harvest organs via cloning technology and make them legally subject to repossession by the Genetic Repo Man.

The original stage show from Zdunich and Smith was a beautiful but edgy musical-horror combination of Blade Runner-meets-Rocky Horror.

Lionsgate will distribute the final product for Twisted Pictures. Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III) has landed center seat duty. The film is still in the very early stages of negotiations, but looks like it will be given the go-sign very soon.
