Toronto — The Hollywood Reporter stated that a long-time set dresser on the soundstage for the new Samuel L. Jackson/Hayden Christensen film “Jumper” was killed when a combination of ice, sand and earth rained down on him in a mishap last week.
The week of January 22nd was one for set accidents as actress Nicole Kidman was also slightly injured when a stunt driver took a turn too wide in the vehicle she was seated in while shooting a scene in her new SF film call “The Invasion.”
The “Jumper” set dresser was named David Ritchie. He was 56 and the coroner reports he was killed instantly. Two other set workers were injured during the incident one seriously who suffered head and shoulder trauma requiring hospitalization and another was released the same day after treatment of minor injuries.
While a full investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway, it appears that the sand and earth that were frozen to the wall of the exterior set design came loose as the set was being torn down, striking Ritchie and causing his death.
