Reuters — Time Warner Inc.’s pay cable network HBO sued satellite television provider EchoStar Communications Corp. for $90 million for charges including miscalculated payment on licensing fees, according to a copy of the suit.
The suit, filed earlier this month in U.S. district court for the Southern District of New York, charges the company with failing to pay on a timely basis fees owed to HBO, and then failing to pay accrued interest on late fee payments.
“They have repeatedly demanded for DISH Network to pay a satellite premium to carry their channels that is inconsistent with what cable companies are required to pay for the same services,” EchoStar said in an e-mailed statement.
HBO’s parent company also owns cable operator Time Warner Cable.
